When crafting your resume for the Information Technology (IT) field, it’s crucial to consider the immediate impact it will have on recruiters and interviewers. Given the volume of resumes they review, the reading process will be dynamic, so make it easy by following some key guidelines. Here are some topic suggestions that have proven effective from both the recruiter’s perspective and in the pursuit of professional opportunities.

About Me

Highlight a unique characteristic that sets you apart in your profession. Describe the positive impacts you’ve generated for your clients. Mention the number of years of experience and in what context.

Example “About Me” Topic: I am a professional passionate about finding innovative solutions. My shift-left testing approach reduced production bugs by 30%, showcasing my expertise in improving software quality over 5 years of experience.

Experiences

  • Avoid listing descriptions of your activities; doing so may seem more like advertising a job vacancy than elucidating your potential;
  • List your impacts, and if possible, use numbers. For example, a 30% reduction in production bugs after applying the shift-left testing approach. For each company you’ve worked for, write a list with a maximum of 3 points;
  • Avoid repeating information about one experience in another. Demonstrate your ability to make different impacts.

Find Me Online

  • Highlight your online presence on platforms such as Medium, Instagram, and GitHub;
  • GitHub is essential for showcasing contributions to the community and proving your skills;
  • LinkedIn is crucial; invest time in a robust profile, as it is a valuable tool for recruiters.

Programming Languages

  • List the languages you master, covering basic concepts;
  • Include knowledge of loops, synchronous/asynchronous, conditionals, and variable type manipulation;
  • Demonstrate skills in programming paradigms such as object-oriented programming.

Languages

Organize this section clearly, indicating your proficiency level in each language.

Education

List your academic achievements, including the completion date and institution.

Skills

Create subtopics to make this section more organized and use keywords to facilitate reading. As a QA (Quality Analyst), I created the following subtopics for my resume: testing, tools, and complementary skills.

Training and Courses

Highlight relevant certifications and courses for the IT field.

Industries

Specify the industries you have worked with software. This will demonstrate how flexible and experienced you are.

Extra Tips

  • Keep the resume concise, ideally not exceeding two pages;
  • Consider including a personalized cover letter to further highlight your suitability for the position;
  • Making the resume ATS-friendly is essential; follow the optimization tips from Jonas Davila’s article.
